2. Watch what you drink. Without realizing it, you could be completely sabotaging your diet with whatever it is you’re drinking. Adding cream to your coffee, filling up on fruit juice, and drinking soda are the biggest culprits. You can fit these into your diet safely, but before you do, make sure you are drinking at least 8 glasses of water everyday. Water will help keep you hydrated and feeling full.

3. A food diary is your new best friend. You can’t have a plan for weight loss if you don’t plan your meals. Keeping a detailed diary of what you plan to eat in a day and what you actually eat is very important to staying on track in any diet. Make sure your diary is very detailed, including the foods you ate, why you ate them, and how you felt after you ate them.

4. Keep a close eye on your portion sizes. We all know that in today’s society, everything is over-sized, including our meals. For example, if you go to a restaurant and order pasta you’ll probably get about 2 cups, but one serving of pasta is actually 1/2 cup. Measure out serving sizes whenever you can.

5. Don’t overdo it when it comes to restricting foods. If you love certain foods, then try to work them into your diet. If you don’t, you may find yourself having such a strong craving for pizza that you eat an entire large pie in one sitting! The truth is that everything can be eaten in moderation. You may choose to eat less of your favorites while you are in weight loss mode, but once you are maintaining, it’s best to eat how you would want to eat for the rest of your life without gaining weight.

If you can follow these few simple tips, you’ll find yourself on the right track to losing weight and keeping it off. Remember that dieting doesn’t have to mean taking drastic measures, but changing a few simple rules in your eating habits can have a drastic effect on lowering your weight.
